Going along with the mainstream

 

The general current may be entirely wrong. The devil invites you to submit to this current and be like everyone else! He may whisper in your ear:
“Everyone is doing it… Why should you be different and have your own way?”

The answer is:
👈 We follow the truth, wherever it may be, whether it’s with the majority or the minority. If the majority of people are wrong, we do not follow them. This is what our father Noah did: everyone in his time was wicked, and he alone was righteous with his family.

It is easy for the majority or even an entire generation to be wrong.
At the time of the Crucifixion, the majority was wrong and shouted, “Crucify Him, crucify Him!” (Luke 23:21).
Even the entire generation, Christ said of it: “A wicked and adulterous generation” (Matthew 12:39).
The majority of people in King Ahab’s time worshiped idols, except for seven thousand who refused, out of hundreds of thousands (1 Kings 19:18).
In the days of Moses the prophet, the Lord judged the entire people as rebellious and stiff-necked, and only two entered the Promised Land—Joshua, son of Nun, and Caleb, son of Jephunneh (Numbers 14:20-30).

A person of God who is steadfast in His commandments sings:
☝️ “I will obey God, even if I obey Him alone.” ☝️

👈 But the devil pushes people into the general current in many ways:

Sometimes people follow the wrong out of politeness, shame, imitation, fear of mockery, or external pressures.
The devil might say, “Just this once, and it won’t happen again!”—but of course, it does.
Some may follow the current out of submission to authority or ignorance. The devil might ask, “Is it possible that everyone is wrong and you’re the only one who’s right?”

He might whisper, “Is it reasonable to think that all these people know what’s good and right, and you’re the only one who knows? Humble yourself, my brother…”—and the person yields and drifts into the current.

👈 A person may follow the current because of a bad friendship or company that influences and pulls him in, as Solomon the Wise was led astray by his wives (1 Kings 11:4).

👈 Sometimes, people yield to the current due to weak personalities. It’s surprising how strong the worldly people can be in defending their wrong ways, mocking the children of God who refuse to conform. They insult them with all sorts of labels until they weaken and give in. What a pity…

☝️ God’s children must be strong in their principles, firm and unwavering in the face of mockery. They should remember the Scripture:
“Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them” (Ephesians 5:11).

👈 If they cannot rebuke the works of darkness, they should at least not participate in them.
They should have their own distinct way of life, as St. John the Beloved said: “By this, the children of God and the children of the devil are revealed” (1 John 3:10).
As it is said, “By their fruits you will know them” (Matthew 7:16), and “Your speech betrays you” (Matthew 26:73).

☝️الانقياد للتيار العام ☝️

قد يكون التيار العام كله خاطئًا، يدعوك الشيطان أن تخضع لهذا التيار، وتكون مثله! وقد يهمس في أذنيك:

الكل هكذا… لماذا تشذ أنت، ويكون لك أسلوب خاص؟!

والجواب،

👈 أننا نتبع الحق أيًا كان موقعه، في جانب الأغلبية أو الأقلية. فإن كانت أغلبية الناس في خطأ، فإننا لا نتبعها. وهكذا فعل أبونا نوح: كانت كل الناس في عهده أشرارًا، وكان هو وحده البار مع أسرته.

ما أسهل أن تكون الغالبية كلها مخطئة، أو الجيل كله.

الغالبية في وقت الصلب كانت مخطئة وصاحت أصلبه أصلبه (لو 23: 21). 

بل الجيل كله، قال عنه السيد المسيح “جيل فاسق وشرير” (متى 12: 39). وغالبية الناس أيام آخاب الملك، كانت تعبد الأصنام، إلا سبعة آلاف ركبة فقط من بين مئات الآلاف (1 مل19: 18). وفي أيام موسى النبي، حكم الرب على الشعب كله بأنه متمرد وصلب الرقبة، ولم يدخل منه إلى أرض الموعد إلا اثنان فقط هما يشوع بن نون، وكالب بن يفنه.(عد 14: 20 – 30).

وإن رجل الله الثابت في وصاياه، هو الذي ينشد قائلًا:

☝️”سأطيع الله حتى لو أطعت الله وحدي” ☝️

👈 ولكن الشيطان يدفع دفعًا في التيار العام بطرق شتى:

أحيانًا يجعل الناس يجارون الخطأ من باب المجاملة، أو من باب الخجل، أو من باب التقليد، أو خوفًا من تهكم الناس ومن تعييرهم، أو نتيجة لضغط الظروف الخارجية وإلحاح الآخرين. 

أو أن يقول لهم الشيطان “هذه المرة فقط، ولن تتكرر”! ثم تتكرر طبعًا.. 

أو أن شخصًا قد يجاري التيار خضوعًا لسلطة أقوي منه أو خضوعًا لرئاسة… وقد يجاري التيار جهلًا. وقد يقول له الشيطان:

هل من المعقول أن يكون كل الناس مخطئين: وأنت الوحيد المصيب؟!

هل من المعقول أن كل هؤلاء يعرفون أين يوجد الخير والحق، وأنت الوحيد الذي تعرف؟! اتضع يا أخي… (ويتضع) الأخ! وينجرف في التيار.

👈 وقد يسير في التيار نتيجة لصداقة أو صحبه خاطئة استطاعت أن تؤثر عليه وتجذبه إلى طريقها، كما سار سليمان الحكيم في طريق نسائه. (1مل 11: 4).

👈 وقد يخضع الإنسان للتيار نتيجة لضعف شخصيته.. والعجيب أن أهل العالم يكونون أقوياء جدًا في دفاعهم عن طريقهم الخاطئ، وفي سخريتهم من أولاد الله الذين لا يجارونهم. ويظلون ينعونهم بشتى النعوت، حتى يضعف هؤلاء ويخضعون…! يا للأسف…

☝️إن أولاد الله يجب أن يكونوا أقوياء في مبادئهم، ثابتين راسخين، لا يتزعزعون أمام تهكمات الأشرار. وليتذكروا قول الكتاب:

“لا تشتركوا في أعمال الظلمة غير المثمرة، بل بالحري وبخوها”  (أف 5: 11).

👈 فإن لم يستطيعوا أن يوبخوا أعمال الظلمة، فعلي الأقل لا يشتركون فيها..

وليكن لهم أسلوبهم المميز في الحياة، الذي قال عنه القديس يوحنا الحبيب “بهذا أولاد الله ظاهرون، وأولاد إبليس (ظاهرون) (1يو 3: 10). وكما قيل “من ثمارهم تعرفونهم” (متى7: 16). وقيل أيضًا “لغتك تظهرك” (متى26: 73).
