Sanctifying the Present
We have today, and we have the ability to act in it—to sanctify it. Today is our responsibility, and we will be judged for it. If we live today as it should be lived, it guarantees the sanctification of our entire life.
Life is made up of units, and a single unit is the day. Can we separate today from yesterday? And from tomorrow as well? Then live it as an independent unit—living it fully, in holiness and joy?
Can we extract today from the past and the future, and turn it into an effective unit?
Rejoicing in every experience we savor…
In every cup of water we drink…
In every kind person we meet…
In every great task we accomplish…
In every useful piece of knowledge we acquire…
In every peaceful night’s sleep…
The Russian pilgrim says, “The trees, the grasses, the birds, the earth, the air, the light… all of them told me they were created for mankind, and they testified to God’s love for humanity. Everything was praying and singing glory to God” (from the book The Way of a Pilgrim).
Just as life itself has a higher purpose, it also has intermediate goals. While keeping in mind the higher purpose at all stages, we must live each stage—its present—fully.
We enjoy studying when study is a temporary goal in our life, without feeling sad or depressed as we study, hoping for the rest we await after studying. And so, in the stage of work, we must also rejoice, be glad, and enjoy while we work. The same applies when we serve, and so on.
It is worth noting that enjoying the work plays a major role in the success of that work. Enjoyment means being convinced of the work, being content with it, and loving it, which leads to multiplied fruit and certain success. Loving the subject matter and knowledge in general makes studying an easy task and a great pleasure.
And so it is with work… and so it is with service… and so it is with all aspects of life.
تقديس الحاضر
إننا نملك اليوم.. ونملك ان نعمل فيه.. ان نقدسه.. فاليوم هو مسؤليتنا.. ونحن سنُدان عن اليوم.. فإذا عشنا اليوم كما يليق، فإن ذلك يضمن لنا تقديس العمر كله.
فالحياة كلها عبارة عن وحدات units، والوحدة الواحدة هى اليوم، فهل يمكن أن نفصل اليوم عن الأمس؟ وعن الغد أيضا؟ ثم نحياه كوحدة مستقلة.. نحياه كله -ملء اليوم- فى قداسة وفرح؟!
هل يمكن أن نستخلص اليوم من الماضى ومن المستقبل، ونحوِّله إلى وحدة فعالة؟!
نفرح فيه بكل خبرة نأكلها..
وبكل كوب ماء نشربه..
بكل شخص طيِّب نتقابل معه..
بكل عمل رائع ننجزه..
بكل معلومة مفيدة نُحَصِّلها..
بكل ليلة هادئة ننامها..
يقول السائح الروسى “كانت الأشجار والأعشاب والطيور والأرض والهواء والنور.. كانت كلها تقول لى أنها وُجِدَت من أجل الإنسان، وأنها تشهد بمحبة الله للإنسان.. كل شىء كان يصلى ويرنِّم لله مجداً” (عن كتاب سائح روسي على دروب الرب).
وكما ان للحياه نفسها هدف اسمى، فإن لها ايضا أهداف مرحلية، ومع مراعاة الهدف الاسمى فى جميع المراحل، فإننا يجب ان نحيا كل مرحله.. حاضرها.. مِلء حاضرها..
فنحن نَستَمتِع بالدراسة فى الوقت الذى تعتبر الدراسه فيه هدفاً مرحلياً فى حياتنا، وذلك دون أن نحزن ونكتئب ونحن ندرِس أملاً فى راحة ننتظرها بعد الدراسة. أي في مرحلة العمل، وهكذا يجب أن نفرح ونُسَرّ ونستمتِع ونحن في العمل، ثم ونحن في الخدمة.. إلخ.
ومما هو جدير بالملاحظة، أن الاستمتاع بالعمل له دور كبير فى نجاح ذلك العمل، إذ أن الاستمتاع يعنى الاقتناع بالعمل والرِّضى عنه ومحبته، مما يؤدى إلى ثمر مُتكاثِر ونجاح اكيد.. فان محبه الماده العلميه والمعلومات عموما تجعل من الدراسة عملاً سهلاً ومتعه كبيره..
وهكذا العمل.. وهكذا الخدمة.. وهكذا جميع نواحى الحياة المختلفة.
