👈 In the Book of Acts, it is mentioned: “Many of those who believed came confessing and disclosing their deeds” (Acts 19:18). Similarly, in the Epistle of James, the apostle says: “Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven” (James 5:14-15).

👈 To prevent anyone from thinking that anointing the sick with oil and praying for them automatically leads to forgiveness of sins, the apostle immediately adds: “Confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective” (James 5:16).

👈 Thus, when the apostle states, “If they have sinned, they will be forgiven,” he quickly clarifies by adding, “Confess your sins,” indicating that the sick person’s sins will not be forgiven unless they confess them.

👈 Moreover, to eliminate the misconception that it is enough to confess internally, the apostle emphasizes: “Confess your sins to one another.”

♦️ Protestants interpret this verse to mean that one can confess to any fellow believer. However, this is not what the apostle says. Instead, he specifies: “Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church” (James 5:14).

👈 ورد في سفر أعمال الرسل: “وكان كثيرون من الذين آمنوا يأتون مقرين ومخبرين بأفعالهم” (أعمال ١٩: ١٨). وبالمثل، يقول الرسول في رسالة يعقوب: “أَمَرِيضٌ أَحَدٌ بَيْنَكُمْ؟ فَلْيَدْعُ شُيُوخَ ٱلْكَنِيسَةِ فَيُصَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَيَدْهِنُوهُ بِزَيْتٍ بِٱسْمِ ٱلرَّبِّ، وَصَلَاةُ ٱلْإِيمَانِ تَشْفِي ٱلْمَرِيضَ، وَٱلرَّبُّ يُقِيمُهُ، وَإِنْ كَانَ قَدْ فَعَلَ خَطَايَا تُغْفَرُ لَهُ” (يعقوب ٥: ١٤-١٥).

👈 ولمنع أي شخص من الاعتقاد بأن دهن المريض بالزيت والصلاة فقط يكفيان لغفران الخطايا، يضيف الرسول فوراً: “ٱعْتَرِفُوا بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ بِٱلْخَطَايَا، وَصَلُّوا بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ لِكَيْ تُشْفَوْا. طِلْبَةُ ٱلْبَارِّ تُقْتَدَرُ كَثِيرًا فِي فِعْلِهَا” (يعقوب ٥: ١٦).

👈 وهكذا، عندما يقول الرسول: “وَإِنْ كَانَ قَدْ فَعَلَ خَطَايَا تُغْفَرُ لَهُ”، يوضح بسرعة بإضافة: “ٱعْتَرِفُوا بِخَطَايَاكُمْ”، مشيراً إلى أن خطايا المريض لن تُغفر إلا إذا اعترف بها.
