Question: How Did Christ Grow as an Embryo in the Virgin’s Womb?
We know that Christ was born of the Virgin Mary without human seed. Was the growth of the fetus like that of any other fetus, meaning it depended on nourishment and development from the body of the Virgin Mary?
Answer:
The Lord Jesus took a body from the Virgin Mary without human seed. In the case of any other fetus, conception happens through human seed, which the mother carries and nourishes from her own blood to form the fetus. In Christ’s case, there was no human seed. Instead, the Holy Spirit prepared His body.
This is the key difference: instead of human seed, the work was that of the Holy Spirit. As the Bible says: “A body You have prepared for Me” (Hebrews 10:5). The role of the Holy Spirit in the Virgin Mary was not only to purify her womb for the indwelling of the Word but also to prepare Christ’s body. Since there was no human seed, as happens with ordinary people, how was Christ’s body formed? It required both the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary.
Thus, in the Divine Liturgy, we say: “He was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and of the Virgin Mary.” Normally, a body is formed from both the father and the mother—the father provides the seed, and the mother carries and nourishes the seed from her blood. In Christ’s case, there was no human seed. Therefore, the Holy Spirit performed this work. Naturally, Christ’s body was formed from the Virgin Mary’s blood. The Holy Spirit was the active power within this blood, creating life and enabling the formation of Christ’s body.
Question: What Does the Phrase “My Eyes Preceded the Morning Watch” Mean?
Answer:
The term “morning watch” refers to dawn. To clarify, it does not mean “sorcery” (as some might confuse the word in Arabic, where “sahar” could mean magic). In this context, “sahar” means dawn. The phrase “My eyes preceded the morning watch” refers to the psalmist waking early, even before dawn, to pray and meditate on God’s words.
This aligns with what we recite in the Morning Prayer, where we rise early to pray and offer our supplications to God.

سؤال : نحن نعرف أن ميلاد السيد المسيح من العذراء مريم، بدون زرع بشر فهل كان نمو الجنين كأي جنين آخر، أى كان يستمد غذائه ونموه من جسد السيدة العذراء ؟

السيد المسيح اتخذ جسداً من العذراء مريم بدون زرع بشر، وبالنسبة لأى جنين آخر أولا يكون من زرع بشر، ثم أن هذا الزرع تحمله الأم، ويأخذ من دمها ما يتكون به، وبالنسبة للسيد المسيح لم يكن هناك زرع بشر، فكان هناك إعداد لهذا الجسد بمعرفة الروح القدس، وهنا الاختلاف أنه بدلا من زرع البشر، هناك عمل الروح القدس، ولذلك قال الكتـــــــــــــــــاب: ” أعددت لى جسدا ” ولهذا السبب أن حلول الروح القدس فى بطن العذراء مريم، ليس فقط لتطهير بطنها لحلول الكلمة، وإنما أيضا لإعداد الجسد، لأنه مادام لا يوجد زرع بشر، كما يحدث فى الإنسان العادى، فكيف تَكّون جسد المسيح ؟ فلا بد من الروح القدس ومن العذراء مريم. ولذلك نحن نقول فى القداس: أنه تجسد من الروح القدس ومن العذراء مريم ، لأن أى جسد لابد أن يتكون من الأب والأم، الأب يعطى الزرع، والأم تحمل هذا الزرع وتغذيه من دمها، فلم يكن هناك زرع بشر، لذلك فإن الروح القدس هو الذى قام بهذا العمل، وطبعا من دم العذراء تَكّون جسد المسيح، فالروح القدس هنا، كان هو القوة الفاعلة فى الدم، هو الذى عمل فى هذا الدم، فخلق فيه الحياة والقدرة على تكوين هذا الجسد .

السَحَر تعنى الفجر هنا ” السَحَر” ، خوفا من أن يكون صاحب السؤال يظن أنها “السِحر”، فالسَحَر هو الفجر، سبقت عيناى وقت السَحَر، وهنا توجد كلمة وقت، وقت السَحَر أى وقت الفجر، لأتلو فى جميع أقوالك ، أى لأبكر فى الصلاة ولذلك نحن نتلو هذا فى صلاة باكر .
